Brendan Murphy’s 8-Foot Boonji Spaceman: Scale, Material, and Presence

At 96 inches tall, Boonji Spaceman does more than occupy a room—it establishes its scale. Brendan Murphy’s 2024 original is constructed in carbon fiber, hand-embellished with solid-marker formula markings, and finished in chrome. The hand-drawn formulas create a human counterpoint to the sculpture’s engineered surface.
The work measures 96 × 44 × 42 inches and weighs 150 pounds. Its vertical form and reflective finish make sightlines, lighting, and circulation part of the acquisition decision. In a residence, it can anchor a double-height interior, entrance gallery, or open living environment. In a corporate or hospitality setting, the silhouette reads immediately from a distance while revealing its hand-applied details at close range.
Material is especially important at this scale. Carbon fiber supports a monumental presence without the visual heaviness of traditional casting. The chrome finish responds to its surroundings, changing with daylight, architectural lighting, and the movement of viewers. Murphy’s formula markings keep the polished surface personal and unmistakably connected to the artist’s visual language.
Before placement, confirm door clearances, floor loading, base orientation, and the relationship between the sculpture and surrounding artworks. A private viewing allows the chrome finish and formula markings to be considered under changing light—something a single photograph cannot fully communicate.
Signed on the base, Boonji Spaceman is currently available through Art R us in Naples, Florida. Documentation, condition information, and delivery and installation guidance are available privately.
