Understand image, sheet, frame, and overall dimensions before comparing an artwork with your wall.

Identify what the number describes

A listing may describe the painted surface, full sheet, panel, or complete framed object. Those measurements answer different questions. Before assessing a fit, ask the gallery to identify exactly what was measured and whether the frame is included.

Use one consistent dimension order

Record height and width with their labels and units. Add depth where the frame, mounting system, or artwork projects into the room. Do not infer orientation from an unlabeled pair of numbers or assume that every record uses the same convention.

Plan from the overall object

Use the confirmed outside frame dimensions when marking the proposed position on a wall. Consider nearby switches, furniture, and the space needed for safe handling. If a new frame is being considered, ask for its projected finished dimensions before approving it.

Keep the record precise

Retain both artwork and overall dimensions with the acquisition documents. A precise record supports later placement, framing, shipping, and insurance discussions without treating one measurement as a substitute for another.

For questions about a particular work, contact the gallery with its title or artwork link and the details you would like to confirm.
